Lost in all the Obama furor, the world's leading economic powers ? the so-called G-20 nations ? are quietly laying plans for a November 15th summit in Washington, D.C., that may effect a revolution in world finance and global governance, a revolution with potentially much greater long-term impact on America than anything on President-elect Obama's agenda.

According to an AP report, "EU leaders are set to call on the Nov. 15 summit to agree immediately on five principles: submit ratings agencies to more surveillance; align accounting standards; close loopholes; set banking codes of conduct to reduce excessive risk-taking; and ask the International Monetary Fund to suggest ways of calming the turmoil."

Even discounting the deliberate vagueness of the phrase "closing loopholes," such an agenda obviously contemplates a significant increase in the level of international regulation, presumably to be implemented and enforced by an international regulatory body or bodies. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), created at the Bretton Woods economic summit near the end of World War II, is being touted as the obvious candidate for a global financial regulatory organization. Historically, the IMF's mandate has been far more limited than many of its creators, including British economist John Maynard Keynes (one of the organizers of the Bretton Woods conference), originally envisioned. Keynes and the rest of the British and American delegations to Bretton Woods wanted the agreement to create a global reserve currency (which Keynes wanted to call the bancor), but ended up establishing the dollar as the world's fallback currency instead. They also created the SDR (Special Drawing Right), a quasi-currency in which all acounts at the IMF were and are reckoned.

Now, it appears, the IMF is being primed for a much larger role, to be remade into a bona fide instrument of global governance ? just as the original General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), also created at Bretton Woods, was later transformed into the World Trade Organization (WTO). The latter is a de facto global trade ministry with supranational authority, and it has already wielded over the United States and many other nations.

The IMF, in other words, is apparently being prepared to become for global finance what the WTO has become for international trade. At a recent planning session for the upcoming summit, "[EU leaders] discussed making the International Monetary Fund the world's financial watchdog, suggesting it be given more power to curb financial crises and give more money to aid countries in trouble," the AP reported.

EU leaders like France's President Nicholas Sarkozy and Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown have seized the initiative in setting the agenda for the November 15 summit, which some are informally referring to as "Bretton Woods II." The EU will be calling for an agreement to overhaul the global financial system within 100 days, with a second international summit to be held in March.

Additional proposals that may be implied by the aformentioned five agenda items might include: creating a world central bank; creating an international reserve currency to replace the ailing U.S. dollar; and levying fees or taxes on international financial transactions. Any of these would be potentially devastating blows to American sovereignty, and would immeasurably strengthen the UN-centered embryonic world government.

A global central bank with the power to create a truly international currency would give the international system the same power globally that the Federal Reserve enjoys domestically ? the power to create money at will. In other words, the UN system would acquire at a stroke the power to fund itself by printing money, emancipating it from reliance on the contributions of member states. An international tax or fee assessed on financial activity would be the realization of another long-cherished but still-unfulfilled dream of globalists: a truly global tax.

Make no mistake about it: the upcoming series of global summits will be about creating and empowering new organs of world government. It will be about curtailing international economic and financial freedom, not enhancing it.

The pages on this website about Christ in Kashmir are based upon the assumption, that Jesus survived the crucifixtion. Fleeing from His grave, Jesus went in hiding from the Romans and other persecuters outside Jerusalem. After recovering from His wounds, He travelled incognito, perhaps even under a another name, with caravans along the "Silk Road", the ancient trade route from Europe to the far east. Yuz Azaf or Jesus Christ arrived in Kashmir aproximately year 60AD. He stayed in Kashmir, where many other Israelites lived. Ten of the twelve tribes of Israel had migrated to this "Promised Land", in the 6th century BC, ie. long time before the birth of Jesus. Jesus came because he was the Messiah of the Israelittes, and he has, in clear words, declared that: "He was sent to serve the lost sheep in the house of Israel.".
After year 80AD he was entombed in Srinagar.

These assumptions is based on several scriptures: The apocryphal texts and non-canonized gospels found in Qumran, Israel and Nag Hamadi, Egypt, scriptures found in Tibetan monestaries, historians over the centuries, inscriptions in temples and at the Rozabal Mausolaeum, the Sanskrit texts Bahavishya Maha Purana and Rajatarangini, Persian texts and last but not the least: The age old oral tradition from the different parts of India and other countries, where Jesus is supposed to have been. Where the local people long time ago had seen a man, "With fair hair and a face shining like the sun, who called Himself, the son of God."

Jesus Christ was an enlightend master without attachments of any kind to either places, people or things. He was a travelling saint, who spread "The Word" Himself. The knowledge about "The Kingdom to come", which is as difficult to understand today, as it was for His closest disciple, he taught himself. It is likely and very well documented, that Jesus Himself created the world religion, that we know today, by travelling and teaching in most of the known world of those days.

Faith and belief is challenged, but is lack of faith in the historical evidences, not deep down lack of faith in Him?

The tomb of prophet Yus Asaf and saint Syed Nasr-ud-Dinis

The mausolaeum of the profet Yuz Asaf and the Islamic saint Syed Nasr-ud-Dinis is today located in the middle of Srinagar's old town, Anzimar in the Khanyar quarter. The building constructed is called "Razabal" or "Rauza Bal". "Rauza" is a term used to denote the tomb of a celebrated personality, someone noble, wealthy or saintly.
Anjuna, which is Sanskit for John/Johannes, built the tomb around 89AD. The tomb was first mentioned in documents from 112AD which states, that a protective building had been constructed over the crypt.

The tomb is said to have been tended by an Israelic looking family, in an unbroken line throughout the centuries.

Sacred Site Charter of 1766

In 1766, the keepers of the tomb were issued with a charter, which were officially confirming the importance of the sacred site. The words in the formal decree issued by the Grand Mufti ("Teacher of Islamic religious Law") Rahman Mir are as follows:
"Here lies Yuz Asaf, who rebuilt the Temple of Solomon at the time of King Gopadatta, and who came as a profet to Kashmir. He ministered to the people, declared the unity with God, and was lawgiver to the people. Since then his tomb has been honoured by kings, state officials, high dignitaries and the common folk".
Is Yuz Asaf and Jesus the same person?

"Yus Asaf" is the Islamic name for Jesus. Many ancient literary works in Kashmir testify to the fact that Yuz Asaf and Jesus are the same person. One old manuscript desribes the shrine as the grave of Issa Rooh-Allah, "Jesus the Spirit of God". Thousands of the faithful makes pilgrimages to this tomb - not just Muslims, but Hindus, Buddhists and Christians as well. The true importance of this modest shrine has been preserved in the memory of the descendants of the ancient Israelites to this day. They call the shrine, "The tomb of Hazrat Issa Sahib", "The Tomb of Lord Jesus".

KOLKATA: Where was Jesus Christ between the age of 12 and 30 years?
He supposedly visited India during this period, according to a
theory, and a filmmaker here has tried to follow Christ?s yet
unexplored trail in his new movie.

Though the Bible does not give credence to such theories, engineer-
turned filmmaker Subhrajit Mitra?s ?The Unknown Stories of the
Messiah? focuses on the unexplored life of Christ and his unaccounted
years in the Bible.

Did Christ visit India after his crucifixion? Is a tomb in the
Kashmir Valley that of Christ? These are some of the controversial
questions Mitra raises in his film.

?Christ supposedly visited India, according to an alternative
theory,? Mitra said.

?Neither the Bible nor the mainstream gospels give credence to such
theories but the scrolls found in caves near the Dead Sea or at Nag
Hammadi (in Egypt), believed to be the first drafts of the Bible,
corroborate the alternative theory about Christ,? Mitra told IANS.

?According to Hindu, Buddhist and Islamic scriptures and beliefs,
Christ visited India during the period of his missing years in the
Bible and stayed in the country for 14 years.

?His Christianity was influenced by Hinduism as we find that the New
Testament of the Bible was more akin to Hinduism than Judaism.

?In Bhavishya Maha Puran, a text dating back to the second century
AD, there are references of Christ?s interaction with King
Shalivahan, the grandson of Vikramaditya, in Kashmir.

?Scholars say it happened after Christ?s resurrection, ? said Mitra.

He also noted that there were different isolated pockets that
corroborated the ?alternative theory? about Christ.

This alternative theory was strengthened after some scrolls (dating
back to between 200 BC and 100 AD) were discovered in 1947 in a group
of caves near Khirbat Qumran in Jordan at the northwestern end of the
Dead Sea.

Two years before that, in 1945, some scrolls dating back to 350 AD
were found tucked into a large jar at Nag Hammadi village in upper
Egypt.

Mitra?s film, produced by Atanu Roy of Sweet Melody, seeks to unearth
the truth through the discourses of an archaeologist (played by
Soumitra Chatterjee) and a novelist (Aparna Sen).

?We have shot in Ladakh, Kashmir, the Silk Route, Kerala, Varanasi
and Puri for the film - following the trail of Christ,? said Mitra.

?There are many documents in the vault of the Vatican and the church
doesn?t publish them because they obviously want to project Christ as
a god and not as a human.

?Assimilation of all such stories raises the question why there was
no proper research on the alternative theory about Christ,? said
Mitra.

German scholar H.J. Trebst, who has been researching on the subject
of Christ?s missing 12 years, invited scholars to a seminar at Puri
in Orissa in November 2003.

According to some scholars of the Orient and the West, Christ had
visited Puri where he had studied Veda and yoga before returning home
to preach Christianity.

Christ also studied Buddhism in the Indian subcontinent, according to
Trebst, who has done extensive research in Ladakh and Nepal to trace
the evidence of Christ?s itinerary in the subcontinent.

According to Trebst, Puri was a famous seat of learning some 2,000
years ago and history has revealed that various religious leaders
visited the city over the centuries.

There is also a belief that Christ?s tomb is in the Kashmir Valley
and foreigners, especially Israelis, visit it in large numbers. The
main attractions in the valley for Israelis are two graves - believed
by some to be those of Christ and Moses.

A section of the local population believes that Kashmiris are one of
the lost tribes of Israel. Aziz Kashmiri, author of the book ?Christ
in Kashmir?, insists that Kashmiris are descendants of one of the 10
lost tribes of Israel and that Christ died during a visit to the
valley.

According to Mitra, it is time serious research begins to verify the
alternative theory about Christ and his Indian connections. About 2.3
percent of India?s population of 1.1 billion follows Christianity,
with about 60 percent of them being Catholics.

The History Channel has shown interest in his film, Mitra said.

The Unknown Life of Jesus Christ - The Life of Saint Issa - Translation by Nicolai Notovitch, 1896200 viewsThe book is the in two distinct parts. Part I details the story of Notovitch's journey to Hemis and the circumstances which led to his seeing the St Issa scroll. Part II is a full translation of the scrolls in to English.

The St Issa scroll is mentioned repeatedly by 'Jesus in India' scholars and was ground breaking in starting to piece together the life of Jesus.

Recent attempts to obtain the scroll and gain more information about it have failed.
During the latter part of the 1870s, Notovitch decided to embark on an ?extended journey through the Orient.?

In 1887 Notovitch visited the famous Golden Temple at Amritsar India, eventually moving on to Ladak. He went to Kargil where he began a horseback trek on his way to Leh, the capital of Ladak. At a place called Mulbek near the Wakha River, he decided to visit two monasteries, one of which was Buddhist, located above a hill. There he met a Lama, and the two conversed about religion. At one point in the conversation, the monk stated:

"We also respect the one whom you recognize as Son of the one God. The spirit of Buddha was indeed incarnate in the sacred person of Issa [Jesus], who without aid of fire or sword, spread knowledge of our great and true religion throughout the world. Issa is a great prophet, one of the first after twenty-two Buddhas. His name and acts are recorded in our writings."

Notovitch then left the area, but while riding his horse near Hemis Monastery, Notovitch suffered a terrible fall from his horse and broke his right leg, and he was forced to remain under the care of the Buddhist monks at Hemis until his leg healed. During this time he had the scrolls read to him and his translators translated it for him. Notovitch took notes, and this formed the core content for his book. Read extracts here.

The Name Issa [top]

Kersten states that the name ?Isa?, or ?Issa?, derives from the Syrian, Yeshu (Jesus), ?being altered to conform to Musa (=Moses).? It is very interesting that Jesus is referred to as ?Issa? in Buddhist documents, as ?Isa? in the scripture of Islam, the Quran, and as ?Isa? in the Hindu scripture, the Bhavishya Mahapurana.

That the religious documents of these three religions mention Jesus as ?Isa? suggests that this was actually a name by which he was known in the East. Buddhism and Hinduism predate Islam.

"When I visited the Lamasery [Monastery] at Hemis, and together with the Lama Ishe Tundup and Mr. Stobden interviewed the 'Manager' (The young head Lama being in Tibet studying), the other Lamas who also were present belonging to the Monastery immediately said that their older monks did remember an Englishmen being injured and brought to their Monastery and that some MSS [manuscripts] were shown to him."

In 1894 Nicolas Notovitch published a book called The Unknown Life of Christ.
He was a Russian doctor who journeyed extensively throughout Afghanistan, India,
and Tibet. Notovitch journeyed through the lovely passes of Bolan, over the Punjab,
down into the arid rocky land of Ladak, and into the majestic Vale of Kashmir of
the Himalayas. During one of his jouneys he was visiting Leh, the capital of Ladak,
near where the buddhist convent Himis is. He had an accident that resulted in his
leg being broken. This gave him the unscheduled opportunity to stay awhile at the
Himis convent.

Notovitch learned, while he was there, that there existed ancient records of the life of Jesus Christ. In the course of his visit at the great convent, he located a Tibetan translation of the legend and carefully noted in his carnet de voyage over two hundred verses from the curious document known as "The Life of St. Issa."

He was shown two large yellowed volumes containing the biography of St. Issa. Notovitch enlisted a member of his party to translate the Tibetan volumes while he carefully noted each verse in the back pages of his journal.

When he returned to the western world there was much controversy as to the authenticity of the document. He was accused of creating a hoax and was ridiculed as an imposter. In his defense he encouraged a scientific expedition to prove the original tibetan documents existed.

One of his skeptics was Swami Abhedananda. Abhedananda journeyed into the arctic region of the Himalayas, determined to find a copy of the Himis manuscript or to expose the fraud. His book of travels, entitled Kashmir O Tibetti, tells of a visit to the Himis gonpa and includes a Bengali translation of two hundred twenty-four verses essentially the same as the Notovitch text. Abhedananda was thereby convinced of the authenticity of the Issa legend.
In 1925, another Russian named Nicholas Roerich arrived at Himis. Roerich, was a philosopher and a distinguished scientist. He apparently saw the same documents as Notovitch and Abhedananda. And he recorded in his own travel diary the same legend of St. Issa. Speaking of Issa, Roerich quotes legends which have the estimated antiquity of many centuries.

... He passed his time in several ancient cities of India such as Benares. All loved him because Issa dwelt in peace with Vaishas and Shudras whom he instructed and helped. But the Brahmins and Kshatriyas told him that Brahma forbade those to approach who were created out of his womb and feet. The Vaishas were allowed to listen to the Vedas only on holidays and the Shudras were forbidden not only to be present at the reading of the Vedas, but could not even look at them.

Issa said that man had filled the temples with his abominations. In order to pay homage to metals and stones, man sacrificed his fellows in whom dwells a spark of the Supreme Spirit. Man demeans those who labor by the sweat of their brows, in order to gain the good will of the sluggard who sits at the lavishly set board. But they who deprive their brothers of the common blessing shall be themselves stripped of it.

Vaishas and Shudras were struck with astonishment and asked what they could perform. Issa bade them "Worship not the idols. Do not consider yourself first. Do not humiliate your neighbor. Help the poor. Sustain the feeble. Do evil to no one. Do not covet that which you do not possess and which is possessed by others."

Many, learning of such words, decided to kill Issa. But Issa, forewarned, departed from this place by night.

Afterward, Issa went into Nepal and into the Himalayan mountains ....

"Well, perform for us a miracle," demanded the servitors of the Temple. Then Issa replied to them: "Miracles made their appearance from the very day when the world was created. He who cannot behold them is deprived of the greatest gift of life. But woe to you, enemies of men, woe unto you, if you await that He should attest his power by miracle."

Issa taught that men should not strive to behold the Eternal Spirit with one's own eyes but to feel it with the heart, and to become a pure and worthy soul....

"Not only shall you not make human offerings, but you must not slaughter animals, because all is given for the use of man. Do not steal the goods of others, because that would be usurpation from your near one. Do not cheat, that you may in turn not be cheated ....

"Beware, ye, who divert men from the true path and who fill the people with superstitions and prejudices, who blind the vision of the seeing ones, and who preach subservience to material things. "...

Then Pilate, ruler of Jerusalem, gave orders to lay hands upon the preacher Issa and to deliver him to the judges, without however, arousing the displeasure of the people.

But Issa taught: "Do not seek straight paths in darkness, possessed by fear. But gather force and support each other. He who supports his neighbor strengthens himself

"I tried to revive the laws of Moses in the hearts of the people. And I say unto you that you do not understand their true meaning because they do not teach revenge but forgiveness. But the meaning of these laws is distorted."

Then the ruler sent to Issa his disguised servants that they should watch his actions and report to him about his words to the people.

"Thou just man, "said the disguised servant of the ruler of Jerusalem approaching Issa, "Teach us, should we fulfill the will of Caesar or await the approaching deliverance?"

But Issa, recognizing the disguised servants, said, "I did not foretell unto you that you would be delivered from Caesar; but I said that the soul which was immersed in sin would be delivered from sin."

At this time, an old woman approached the crowd, but was pushed back. Then Issa said, "Reverence Woman, mother of the universe,' in her lies the truth of creation. She is the foundation of all that is good and beautiful. She is the source of life and death. Upon her depends the existence of man, because she is the sustenance of his labors. She gives birth to you in travail, she watches over your growth. Bless her. Honor her. Defend her. Love your wives and honor them, because tomorrow they shall be mothers, and later-progenitors of a whole race. Their love ennobles man, soothes the embittered heart and tames the beast. Wife and mother-they are the adornments of the universe."

"As light divides itself from darkness, so does woman possess the gift to divide in man good intent from the thought of evil. Your best thoughts must belong to woman. Gather from them your moral strength, which you must possess to sustain your near ones. Do not humiliate her, for therein you will humiliate yourselves. And all which you will do to mother, to wife, to widow or to another woman in sorrow-that shall you also do for the Spirit."

So taught Issa; but the ruler Pilate ordered one of his servants to make accusation against him.

Said Issa: "Not far hence is the time when by the Highest Will the people will become purified and united into one family."

And then turning to the ruler, he said, "Why demean thy dignity and teach thy subordinates to live in deceit when even without this thou couldst also have had the means of accusing an innocent one?"

From another version of the legend, Roerich quotes fragments of thought and evidence of the miraculous.

Near Lhasa was a temple of teaching with a wealth of manuscripts. Jesus was to acquaint himself with them. Meng-ste, a great sage of all the East, was in this temple.

Finally Jesus reached a mountain pass and in the chief city of Ladak, Leh, he was joyously accepted by monks and people of the lower class .... And Jesus taught in the monasteries and in the bazaars (the market places); wherever the simple people gathered--there he taught.

Not far from this place lived a woman whose son had died and she brought him to Jesus. And in the presence of a multitude, Jesus laid his hand on the child, and the child rose healed. And many brought their children and Jesus laid his hands upon them, healing them.

Among the Ladakis, Jesus passed many days, teaching them. And they loved him and when the time of his departure came they sorrowed as children.
CHAPTER Vl
1 The white priests and the warriors, becoming acquainted with the discourses of Issa addressed to the Sudras, resolved upon his death and sent with this intent their servants to seek out the young prophet.

2 But Issa, warned of his danger by the Sudras, left the neighborhood of Juggernaut by night, reached the mountain, and established himself in the country of Gautamides, the birthplace of the great Buddha Sakyamuni, in the midst of a people worshipping the one and sublime Brahma.

3 After having perfected himself in the Pali language, the just Issa applied himself to the study of the sacred writings of the Sutras.

4 Six years after, Issa, whom the Buddha had elected to spread his holy word, had become a perfect expositor of the sacred writings.

5 Then he left Nepal and the Himalayan mountains, descended into the valley of Rajputana, and went towards the west, preaching to diverse peoples the supreme perfection of man,

6 Which is-to do good to one's neighbor, being the sure means of merging oneself rapidly in the Eternal Spirit: "He who shall have regained his original purity," said Issa, "will die having obtained remission for his sins, and he will have the right to contemplate the majesty of God."

7 In crossing pagan territories, the divine Issa taught that the worship of visible gods was contrary to the law of nature.

8 "For man," said he, "has not been permitted to see the image of God, and yet he has made a host of deities in the likeness of the Eternal.

9 "Moreover, it is incompatible with the human conscience to make less matter of the grandeur of divine purity than of animals and objects executed by the hand of man in stone or metal.

10 "The Eternal Lawgiver is one; there is no other God but he. He has not shared the world with anyone, neither has he informed anyone of his intentions.

11 "Even as a father would act towards his children, so will God judge men after their deaths according to the laws of his mercy. Never would he so humiliate his child as to transmigrate his soul, as in a purgatory, into the body of an animal."

12 "The heavenly law," said the Creator by the mouth of Issa, "is opposed to the immolation of human sacrifices to an image or to an animal; for I have consecrated to man all the animals and all that the earth contains.

13 "All things have been sacrificed to man, who is directly and intimately associated with me his Father; therefore he who shall have stolen from me my child will be severely judged and chastised by the divine law.

14 "Man is naught before the Eternal Judge, as the animal is naught before man.

15 "Wherefore I say unto you, Leave your idols and perform not rites which separate you from your Father, associating you with the priests from whom the heavens have turned away.

16 "For it is they who have led you from the true God and whose superstitions and cruelties conduce to the perversion of your soul and the loss of all moral sense."

CHAPTER VII
1 The words of Issa spread among the pagans in the midst of the countries he traversed, and the inhabitants forsook their idols.

2 Seeing which the priests exacted of him who glorified the name of the true God, reason in the presence of the people for the reproaches he made against them and a demonstration of the nothingness of their idols.

3 And Issa made answer to them: "If your idols and your animals are powerful and really possessed of supernatural strength, then let them strike me to the earth."

4 "Work then a miracle," replied the priests, "and let thy God confound our gods, if they inspire him with contempt."

5 But Issa then said: "The miracles of our God have been worked since the first day when the universe was created; they take place every day and at every moment. Whosoever seeth them not is deprived of one of the fairest gifts of life.

6 "And it is not against pieces of stone, metal, or wood, which are inanimate, that the anger of God will have full course; but it will fall on men, who, if they desire their salvation, must destroy all the idols they have made.

7 "Even as a stone and a grain of sand, naught as they are in the sight of man, wait patiently the moment when he shall take and make use of them,

8 "So man must await the great favor that God shall accord him in his final judgment.

9 "But woe unto you, ye enemies of men, if it be not a favor that you await but rather the wrath of the Divinity-woe unto you if ye expect miracles to bear witness to his power.

10 "For it will not be the idols that he will annihilate in his anger but those who shall have erected them. Their hearts shall be consumed with eternal fire, and their lacerated bodies shall go to satiate the hunger of wild beasts.

11 "God will drive the impure from among his flocks, but he will take back to himself those who shall have gone astray through not having recognized the portion of spirituality within them."

12 Seeing the powerlessness of their priests, the pagans had still greater faith in the sayings of Issa and, fearing the anger of the Divinity, broke their idols to pieces. As for the priests, they fled to escape the vengeance of the populace.

13 And Issa further taught the pagans not to strive to see the Eternal Spirit with their eyes but to endeavor to feel him in their hearts and by purity of soul to render themselves worthy of his favors.

14 "Not only," said he unto them, "abstain from consuming human sacrifices, but immolate no creature to whom life has been given, for all things that exist have been created for the profit of man.

15 "Do not steal the goods of your neighbor, for that would be to deprive him of what he has acquired by the sweat of his brow.

16 "Deceive no one, so as not to be yourselves deceived. Endeavor to justify yourself before the last judgment, for then it will be too late.

17 "Do not give yourselves up to debauchery, for that would be to violate the laws of God.

18 "You shall attain to supreme happiness, not only in purifying yourselves, but also in guiding others in the way that shall permit them to gain original perfection."

CHAPTER VIII
1 The neighboring countries resounded with the prophecies of Issa, and when he entered into Persia the priests became alarmed and forbade the inhabitants to listen to him.

2 And when they saw all the villages welcoming him with joy and listening devoutly to his sermons, they gave orders to arrest him and had him brought before the high priest, where he underwent the following interrogation:

3 "Of what new God cost thou speak? Art thou not aware, unhappy man, that Saint Zoroaster is the only just one admitted to the privilege of communion with the Supreme Being,

4 "Who ordered the angels to put down in writing the word of God for the use of his people, laws that were given to Zoroaster in paradise?

5 "Who then art thou to dare here to blaspheme our God and to sow doubt in the hearts of believers?"

6 And Issa said unto them: "It is not of a new God that I speak but of our Heavenly Father, who has existed since all time and who will still be after the end of all things.

7 "It is of him that I have discoursed to the people, who, like unto innocent children, are not yet capable of comprehending God by the simple strength of their intelligence or of penetrating into his divine and spiritual sublimity.

8 "But even as a babe discovers in the darkness its mother's breast, so even your people, who have been led into error by your erroneous doctrine and your religious ceremonies, have recognized by instinct their Father in the Father of whom I am the prophet.

9 "The Eternal Being has said to your people through the medium of my mouth: 'You shall not worship the sun, for it is but a part of the world which I have created for man.

10 "'The sun rises in order to warm you during your work; it sets to allow you the repose which I myself have appointed.

11 "'It is to me, and to me alone, that you owe all that you possess, all that is to be found about you, above you, and below you."'

12 "But," said the priests, "how could a people live according to the rules of justice if it had no preceptors?"

13 Then Issa answered, "So long as the people had no priests, the natural law governed them, and they preserved the candor of their souls.

14 "Their souls were with God, and to commune with the Father they had recourse to the medium of no idol or animal, nor to the fire, as is practiced here.

15 "You contend that one must worship the sun, the spirit of good and of evil. Well, I say unto you, your doctrine is a false one, the sun acting not spontaneously but according to the will of the invisible Creator who gave it birth

16 "And who has willed it to be the star that should light the day, to warm the labor and the seedtime of man.

17 "The Eternal Spirit is the soul of all that is animate. You commit a great sin in dividing it into a spirit of evil and a spirit of good, for there is no God outside the good,

18 "Who, like unto the father of a family, does but good to his children, forgiving all their faults if they repent them.

19 "The spirit of evil dwells on the earth in the hearts of those men who turn aside the children of God from the strait path.

20 "Wherefore I say unto you, Beware of the day of judgment, for God will inflict a terrible chastisement upon all those who shall have led his children astray from the right path and have filled them with superstitions and prejudices;

21 "Those who have blinded them that see, conveyed contagion to the healthy, and taught the worship of the things that God has subordinated to man for his good and to aid him in his work.

22 "Your doctrine is therefore the fruit of your errors; for desiring to bring near to you the God of truth, you have created for yourselves false gods."

23 After having listened to him, the magi determined to do him no harm. But at night, when all the town lay sleeping, they conducted him outside of the walls and abandoned him on the high road, in the hope that he would soon become a prey to the wild beasts.

24 But, protected by the Lord our God, Saint Issa continued his way unmolested.

The Discovery [top]
During the latter part of the 1870s, Notovitch decided to embark on an ?extended journey through the Orient.?

In 1887 Notovitch visited the famous Golden Temple at Amritsar India, eventually moving on to Ladak. He went to Kargil where he began a horseback trek on his way to Leh, the capital of Ladak. At a place called Mulbek near the Wakha River, he decided to visit two monasteries, one of which was Buddhist, located above a hill. There he met a Lama, and the two conversed about religion. At one point in the conversation, the monk stated:

"We also respect the one whom you recognize as Son of the one God. The spirit of Buddha was indeed incarnate in the sacred person of Issa [Jesus], who without aid of fire or sword, spread knowledge of our great and true religion throughout the world. Issa is a great prophet, one of the first after twenty-two Buddhas. His name and acts are recorded in our writings."

Notovitch then left the area, but while riding his horse near Hemis Monastery, Notovitch suffered a terrible fall from his horse and broke his right leg, and he was forced to remain under the care of the Buddhist monks at Hemis until his leg healed. During this time he had the scrolls read to him and his translators translated it for him. Notovitch took notes, and this formed the core content for his book. Read extracts here.

The Name Issa [top]

Kersten states that the name ?Isa?, or ?Issa?, derives from the Syrian, Yeshu (Jesus), ?being altered to conform to Musa (=Moses).? It is very interesting that Jesus is referred to as ?Issa? in Buddhist documents, as ?Isa? in the scripture of Islam, the Quran, and as ?Isa? in the Hindu scripture, the Bhavishya Mahapurana.

That the religious documents of these three religions mention Jesus as ?Isa? suggests that this was actually a name by which he was known in the East. Buddhism and Hinduism predate Islam.

Notovitch - Was he Really There? [top]
There are those that say Notovitch never visited Hemis and that the St Issa scrolls do not exist, yet the following diary entry is a powerful vindication of the account of Notovitch:

"When I visited the Lamasery [Monastery] at Hemis, and together with the Lama Ishe Tundup and Mr. Stobden interviewed the 'Manager' (The young head Lama being in Tibet studying), the other Lamas who also were present belonging to the Monastery immediately said that their older monks did remember an Englishmen being injured and brought to their Monastery and that some MSS [manuscripts] were shown to him."

This account was given in the 'PS' section of a diary entry for the 'Moravian Mission' who had in the rest of the entry tried to discredit and write of the St Issa scroll.

This translated diary entry is now well known and documented in several books on Jesus in India.

In addition Dr Fida Hassnain during his own enquiries in to the scrolls spoke to people at the monastry who talked about both Notovitch's visit and the scrolls. So was he really there? The anwers appears to be a resounding Yes.
